Calgary’s seventh-annual TEDxYYC event set to take place on June 24 at Arts Commons
Early-bird tickets on-sale February 5
CALGARY, AB – February 2, 2016 – Bringing Calgary’s largest and most well-attended, independently-organized TED event to stage, we are thrilled to announce TEDxYYC is returning to Calgary on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall at Arts Commons.
Over the past six years, TEDxYYC has welcomed an impressive list of the world’s brightest minds representing all that is new and inspiring in the fields of Technology, Entertainment and Design. TEDxYYC 2016 will continue to build upon that legacy in a big way. The speakers for our 2016 event will come from diverse corners of our global community, but will have one thing in common – they are all focused on, and driven relentlessly towards, an expanding horizon. With new viewpoints, we can see the issues, innovations and ideas that lay at the intersection of human ability and imagination.
“We believe that an exploration of fresh ideas and a collaborative spirit are absolutely essential to building a stronger community,” says Josh Boser, TEDxYYC 2016 Committee Chair. “TEDxYYC continues to provide a local forum for big thinkers, action takers and product makers to elevate perspectives on our changing world. What better way to do that than by attending one of the most exciting, most talked about events in our city.”
With more than 1,200 attendees at last year’s event, TEDxYYC 2016 is poised to provoke meaningful discussion and engage a community of highly-motivated individuals with an appetite for new ideas, inspiration and innovation. Prospective partners and volunteers are invited to apply to participate at TEDxYYC.ca/contact.
A limited quantity of early-bird tickets to TEDxYYC 2016 will go on-sale to the public at TEDxYYC.com/tickets on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. MT.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today’s leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED’s annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED’s open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a “wish,” or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
