Award-winning experts including Nobel Peace Prize nominee to take the stage in Calgary on June 24
CALGARY, AB – May 24, 2016 – For Immediate Release – TEDxYYC, Calgary’s largest independently-organized TED event, is thrilled to announce the final round of speakers to take the stage at its highly-anticipated, sold-out event on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall at Arts Commons.
Speakers for the seventh-annual event will come from diverse corners of the global community in Technology, Entertainment and Design, but will have one thing in common – they are all focused on, and driven relentlessly towards, an expanding horizon. They explore issues, innovations and ideas that lay at the intersection of human ability and imagination. These well-regarded subject-matter experts join the stellar roster of speakers and performers at TEDxYYC 2016:
A human rights advocate on the issue of climate change, Sheila Watt-Cloutier is a leading voice in the global discussion on environmental sustainability and cultural preservation. Based in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Sheila defends Inuit human rights against the impacts of climate change in the Arctic. Sheila has been honoured for her influential work over the decades with several Honourary Doctorates, U.N. Human Development Award, Nobel Peace Prize nomination (2007) and the Order of Canada (2006). Recognized as one of four Canadians Who Made a Difference by Canada Post, commemorated with a Canadian Stamp in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012.
A natural guide in leadership and motivation, Nancy Lowery helps individuals and organizations define their leadership power through horsemanship activities – one relationship at a time. In 2004, Nancy launched an alternative to classroom leadership learning through horsemanship with The Natural Leader – experiential programs which explore leadership, team dynamics, feedback and communication through purposeful activities with horses. Based in Alberta, Nancy shares her passion on this topic with organizations across Alberta and at forums throughout North America.
A collaborative leader in sustainability and clean capitalism, Chad Park is passionate about bringing leaders together to identify, test, and scale initiatives that tackle climate change, energy security and sustainable development. Chad is the director of the Alberta-based Energy Futures Lab, former executive director of The Natural Step Canada and has advised dozens of businesses and communities in Canada and internationally. In 2012, Chad received the Clean 50 award, recognizing fifty individuals in Canada who have advanced the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism.
