Speaker Catch-Up: Ben Cameron

Mar 20, 2012

Ben Cameron, Program Director of  the Arts at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation in New York, supervises a multi million dollar grants program aimed at the theatre, contemporary dance, jazz and presenting art fields. Since he spoke at the 2010 TEDxYYC event, Cameron’s TEDx talk ‘The true power of the performing arts‘ has been picked up by TED.com, and has been viewed nearly 200,000 times.

Ben Cameron at TEDxYYC in 2010

He recently caught up with one of our committee members to fill us in on what he’s been up to since he gave his talk at TEDxYYC 2010.

I continue at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, where we have recently announced a new special $50 million initiative designed to support artists fellowships and artists residencies, above and beyond our ongoing arts budget.  Having dedicated the last five years to supporting business innovation at arts organization as part of our ongoing arts strategy, we have learned an enormous amount about innovation and look forward to building on such lessons.  I continue to thank everyone in Calgary for the extraordinary opportunity to have spoken at TED xYYC—it has opened doors for me world wide (literally), including invitations to speak in multiple countries, participation in international conferences, and numerous engagements, including a return to Calgary last year.
