In this heartfelt talk, Janelle shares her story of the struggles faced by Indigenous women in Canada. As the country celebrates its 150th anniversary, Janelle brings attention to the fact that the reconciliation of the colonial past is a journey that has only just begun. Through the fun and interactive approach of gaming, Janelle helps us to navigate the complexities of Indigenous issues, and invites us to be part of the ongoing conversation about the Indigenous experience in Canada. Janelle Pewapsconias is a nehīyaw iskwesis (Plains Cree woman) who channels her creativity and passion for Indigenous culture via gaming platforms. Born and raised on the Little Pine First Nation, Treaty 6 Territory, Janelle is the founder and chief gamemaker of Neeched Up Games as well as an influential spoken word poet. An alum of the University of Saskatchewan and student at Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, Janelle is a Top 10 Finalist on CBC’s We Are The Change for her contribution to community building across Canada.
