TEDxYYC is celebrating our tenth year of sharing ideas worth spreading, so we’re planning for our biggest event yet. We’ve invited a whole host of interesting speakers, artists, and performers to bring inspiration, innovation, and connection to the TEDxYYC stage.
This year’s theme is “You Are Here,” and to help us figure out where “here” is, we’ve got 15 talks that span the human experience: from robotics, social good, architecture, fashion, design, cutting edge medical diagnosis to nano-fabrication, and more. They’re sure to intrigue, inspire, and invite discussion in the lobby!
Did you know that TEDxYYC is so much more than just our talks? Since you only turn 10 once, we’re going all out this year, with more time, more space, and more to do between speakers than ever before. Learn the ins and outs of working with TEDxYYC from our alumni panel discussion, plug into the history of electronic musical instruments in our lobby.
What do writers tell us about Calgary? Join Shaun Hunter, author of Calgary through the Eyes of Writers, for a short literary walk through our storied city. Afterward, replenish your energy with a light lunch or delicious snacks, all compliments of our generous partners.
Still hungry, but for knowledge? Shop for books written and recommended by past and present TEDxYYC speakers. Learn about low-impact living, or speak with refugees about their experiences moving to Calgary and the volunteers who made it possible.
What’s a birthday party without balloons? Our artist-in-residence, Maria Galura, will have a fantastic balloon installation on stage that you’ll get to see before it “blows up” on social media (remember to use #TEDxYYC!)
We love deep discussion and inspiration that will move our city forward, but we’re also the kind of party people who like to crank the energy…and the tunes. We’ve invited One Big JAM to bring their improvised concert experience to our stage, and Cowtown Opera will be on hand to belt out those high notes and shake up what we thought we knew about opera. We’ll also have Alanna Bluebird-Onespot to move us with her spoken word poetry.
Worried about not having enough time to do everything? We’ve switched from Friday to Saturday programming, and extended our hours and break times to allow everyone to experience the new activities as much as possible.
We’ve even included a handy “To Do” list at the back of your program that will help you keep track of everything you’ll want to check out!
There’s limited seating left for this year’s event, so remember to grab your tickets now before they’re all gone!
