We are a dedicated team of over 35 volunteers that dream up, plan and pull off Canada’s largest independently organized TEDx event. We firmly believe Calgary is a great place to spread new ideas, and our audiences show up year after year. Join us on our 11th year of TEDxYYC. 

Did you know that TEDxYYC is entirely powered by the creative energy of volunteers? That’s right! An event like TEDxYYC only comes together with the support of many talented people, with diverse backgrounds and skills.

The combined experience of our team and the grassroots approach to collaboration are what make TEDxYYC so impactful! We know the diversity of talent of our team is a huge asset, giving us the ability to create a memorable event year after year.

We are looking for passionate Calgarians to fill the following roles:

TEDxYYC is an equal opportunity organizations and all walks of life are welcome to be a part of our event. We are looking for minimum one year commitment for the following volunteer positions. 


Head of Partnerships
  • Build and manage a team of volunteers focused on creating partnerships with other organizations for TEDxYYC’s events. Primary focus is on financial partnerships, but will also include in-kind and experiential.
  • Help develop partnership strategy and execute on it with the team.
  • Update and revise marketing materials and partnership package as needed.
  • Manage online Partnership database currently in Asana. Ensure information is stored and transitioned each year.
  • Organize team meetings
  • Attend leadership meetings
  • Ensure alignment with other aspects of the event (Communications, Alumni, Curation, Guest Services, etc.)
  • Train and onboard new volunteers for the Partnership Team
  • Research and qualify potential leads for yourself and the team
  • Build and manage relationships with current and past partners
  • Negotiate with organizations to finalize Partnership agreements
  • Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/month


  • Previous large event experience is an asset
  • Previous sponsorship/fundraising and relationship building is an asset 
  • Demonstrated ability in leading a team is an asset
  • Excited about ideas worth spreading and the mission of TED
Creative Director
  • Helps develop an overall vision of the event day theme and visual identity
  • Lead a team of Designers, Writers and Web Specialists to execute the theme vision. Team will be responsible for:
    • Online assets used for social media, marketing collateral and the website 
    • Event day asset both physical and digital including the event program, posters, banners, event slides and video graphics
  • Meet with the venue to understand the space and potential for displaying our signage.
  • Works closely with: Marketing & Communications, Lobby Experience, Speakers Team, Artist in Residence, Student Team, and Production
  • Time Commitment: 8 – 12 hours/month


  • Experience with developing brand identities and campaigns through multi-channel marketing
  • Hands-on experience with applying design, copy, and web best practices
  • Graphic design experience an asset
Website Specialist
  • Re-design and maintain the TEDxYYC website
  • Work closely with the Creative Director and Marketing Director to bring the annual event theme to life on the website (each year there is a new theme)
  • Support search engine optimization (SEO) 
  • Monitor and report on web analytics. Provide improvement recommendations 
  • On-going content updates and site maintenance
  • Time Commitment: 8 – 12 hours/month


  • Experience with WordPress
  • Some knowledge of HTML/CSS
Head of Public Relations
  • Develop PR campaigns and media relations strategies
  • Seek high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
  • Build and maintain targeted media lists, and nurture relationships with key reporters
  • Prepare and distribute press releases to promote TEDxYYC
  • Monitor, analyze and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis
  • Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours/month


  • Diploma or degree in Public Relations, Communications or related field
  • Proven experience as a Public Relations Manager
  • Experience managing media relations (online, broadcast and print)
  • Strong communication ability (oral and written)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Previous media connections an asset
